Yesterday was the sort of day that can only earn an L, and the sort that it's best not to speak of at length. It's not superstition, just the act of moving along. I think the only thing good I can say about yesterday was we had a decent walk just after sunset, and there were bats everywhere, flitting to and fro. One chased a mockingbird, which I assume it mistook for a rather large insect. Just after the mockingbird incident, we heard a screech owl just across the street. A marvelously eerie sound.

Also, I wanted to point out that the current eBay auctions end tomorrow. So far, there's been no bid on the copy of La Soglia (the Italian edition of Threshold). Please have a look. Bid if you're so inclined, or buy it now, whichever.

Yes, I have heard the news of the Farscape "revival," that the SFC has order 10 short films or "webisodes" for SCI FI PULSE. But honestly, I don't know if this is a good thing. Aside from the final forty five minutes or so, I was not particularly thrilled with the mini-series in October 2004, and I don't yet know what to make of the news.

Ah, and I have this, because you can't do much better than She Wants Revenge, Shirley Manson, and Harvey Keitel, all in a single video::

Maybe the webisodes will benefit from less pressure than was put on the mini-series. I think a big part of the problem with the mini-series was a sort of self-conscious drive to make the Ultimate Spectacular End. Well, and the baby. Baby's always a problem, in my book, unless he's a leopard.

One can only hope. I we can believe that what we saw in the mini was somehow representative of a fourth season (and I'm not so sure), compressed from twenty-two hours into only four, then that explains a lot of what went wrong.

I think a big part of the problem with the mini-series was a sort of self-conscious drive to make the Ultimate Spectacular End.

I will say, with all that went wrong with the mini, I did like the bit with the creation of the wormhole weapon, that we saw something on that scale, with that sort of intensity. The battle scene just before that, though, didn't exactly work for me.

Well, and the baby. Baby's always a problem, in my book, unless he's a leopard.

Agreed. I was never cool with the whole baby plot device.

That bit worked for me, too. In fact, I think it was the best part. It was the only thing that really earned the big emotion every other couple minutes in the mini-series was desperately aiming for. I also sort of liked the internal politics among the Scarrans, though the peace-making eidolon thing was incredibly silly.

That scene was humping my leg and I just wanted it to stop.

Utterly superfluous. That I feel that way about it makes me wonder if I'm just not clued in on the whole parenthood thing, but it made two bad things in my mind; it felt like a meaningless grab for tension, when we're already adequately worried about Crichton and Aeryn, and it also destroyed any of the tension between Crichton and Aeryn.

Same here. It was one of the only things in the mini that made we say wow, which, of course, was one of the things Farscape was always best at.

I also sort of liked the internal politics among the Scarrans, though the peace-making eidolon thing was incredibly silly.

Yep, and yep. I saw no point in complicating the plot with the Eidolons (sp?), and hated the "Peacekeepers are really transplanted humans" reveal.

That scene was humping my leg and I just wanted it to stop.

Well said.

Exactly. And yeah, the whole baby thing, I know it made the "shippers" happy and all, and naming him D'argo was kind of nice, but otherwise "bleh." At the very least, they could have gone through with one the the teases where we almost had Rygel and then Chi (or was it the other way round) have to carry and birth the child. Of course, we know that if I'd been writing the story, Aeryn would have miscarried and then died to save everyone...or something or the sort.

Yeah. That almost sounds like it comes from that certain tendancy in Sci-Fi you were talking about of wanting to overexplain things. No-one cared that Luke Skywalker looked like an Earthling.

we almost had Rygel and then Chi

Those two should've ended up together. They were a much better match than D'Argo and Chiana. Well, maybe I just wanted to think about Nebari/Hynerian sex.

Of course, we know that if I'd been writing the story, Aeryn would have miscarried and then died to save everyone...or something or the sort.

Heh. That would have been an improvement. It may be kinder than my idea--I thought maybe Aeryn, fearing the baby would be possessed by Harvey, has an abortion, and Crichton flips out because he turns out to be a big pro-lifer. Maybe in an episode, he learns a valuable lesson when a space baby has to be killed to save an inhabited planet. Though, I guess since Crichton's a scientist and seems like a good guy, the idea of him being pro-life is a little far fetched . . . Maybe he would just have a grand fantasy abouut his "legacy."
