I just needed this again...

A long winded anecdote I promise has a point related to this post (first time comment, long time reader):

This past summer I worked doing behavioural ecology research with Atlantic salmon in middle of nowhere New Brunswick. Work I absolutely love but is incredibly difficult due to the location and conditions (no phone, no electricity other than when the generator is on, slept in a tent for 6 weeks, the works really). I did have an mp3 player and a stack of books to keep me company. One of the albums I played on a loop (screaming the lyrics with no other human around for kilometers) was The King is Dead. The first book I read (sitting along the banks of Catamaran brook under and ancient Birch tree tipped at a 45 degree angle) was The Red tree. I've been meaning to send this message in some form or another for some time and here's the random link I was looking for. The Red Tree set a high bar for whatever else I read while out there and I thank you for it. It entertained me and left me in wonder at the quality of your writing (it was my introduction to your novel length work). I won't push the compliments, but the soundtrack, setting and The Red Tree, for better or worse, set a mood I carried with me throughout the work season.
