Irene Day 4.1

About twenty minutes ago, I finished Blood Oranges. For those who like numbers, I did 2,831 words today. I aimed for a word count of 70,000 words, and the manuscript came in at 70,024. I conceived of the book in April, and began writing it on May 5th. To put it all down on paper, only 45 actual writing days were required.
Hurricane Irene, I believe, was my midwife.
Never, in my twenty years as a writer, have I finished two novels in one year (never mind having also edited two collections of my short fiction).
I get one day off before I begin again.
Now, I'm going to lie down. Or look at the windblown streets....

Date: 2011-08-29 03:00 am (UTC)Wonderful news! Just reading the stats makes me feel exhausted. I am so very much looking forward to reading this book - it promises to be one of the brightest spots of what is looking to be a fairly crappy year for me... I'll keep my fingers crossed that it gets the cover and publicity it deserves from your publisher.

Date: 2011-08-29 03:45 am (UTC)I've been making imaginary cover art for your newest novels. I find it a good way to keep myself motivated and hone my graphic skills. You're welcome to use any of them (or not) as you wish, to promote the books and make the world a better place, or whatever. I'm working without design briefs here, obviously, so I can't speak to the aptness of any of these, but here you go.

I should get back to writing, but I'll probably crank out a few more over the week.
Maybe you could run a bit of a fan-based promo thing, I'm sure I'm not the only one here not embarrassed to do "fan art" ;)
