In memorium. In defiance.

This is the photograph from HPL's grave last August 20th, the one the security guard tried to force Kathryn to delete. Previously, I have printed it only in Sirenia Digest. It seems the least I can do today, to put it online:

There are two more behind the cut, two I have never shown before:

And I will note that one year after a security guard threatened to call the police for having photographed the grave, the Swan Point Cemetery's website, which has a long list of forbidden activity, still does not include photography of graves as something visitors are not permitted to do.

Date: 2009-08-20 09:47 pm (UTC)Why on earth would photography of graves be forbidden?
Explanations offered vy Swan Point security have ranged from "it's disrespectful" to (I shit you not) "photography will steal the souls of the dead."

Date: 2009-08-21 06:33 am (UTC)Dude, if the security guards are still as crazy as they were last year, I personally would be quite pleased to have my soul stolen. At least I wouldn't have to hang around them anymore.

hahahahahahahahahaha
Wait... is that considered a threat?
Gorgeous pictures. I particularly like the one with the pennies/shells/frog on top if it. :D

That's also, in its way, a review.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Date: 2009-08-21 05:44 am (UTC)The only place that the "no photos" rule is posted, that we've discovered, is on a small sign, on the driver's left side as one enters the cemetery. Last year, we made an especial point to check the website, not wishing to violate any rules. There were lots of rules posted, but none about photography. We told the security guard this, and he informed us he didn't give a shit what was on the website.

Actually, I'm even more reminded of a jerk security guard at the Eagle Square shopping center a few years ago who descended in full fury on my ex and me for *obeying* a sign regarding parking. He was unmoved by our gesturing at it.
Possibly I digress; it's almost 2.

Date: 2009-08-21 08:48 am (UTC)The fact that you and Spooky were treated so rudely at Swan Point still boggles my mind. Here in my part of the world, I've never heard of anyone being hassled for visiting the grave of Lovecraft's friend, Robert E. Howard. Perhaps because in this uptight "Christian" area, no one thinks we're out to steal Bob's soul? (Or perhaps they figure he's beyond theft, seeing as how he chose to end his own life, and they do cast rather a jaundiced eye on such as that.)
