Well, I tried to sleep, and now I'm awake...my mind racing with things I'd rather not think about.
Anyway, for everyone too young (or not young enough) to recall the Belly song that inspired my "Feed the Tree" line, and various other references, here you go. For me, this song is two summers, '93 and '94. I wrote so many stories to this album:

My grandmother was very sick the last decade of her life and he took very good care of her until the day she died, until the day she fed the tree. Then the part about the old man breaking his heart, pouring it on the ground and red tree sprouts up... Yeah, a lot of heavy personal symbolism for me.
This song and REM's "Driver 8" never fail to make me cry in a good way because they bring back memories of my maternal grandparents.
So thanks for posting this. My mind was racing too and it still is, but is now racing on far more pleasant fuel.
