As or about twenty-five minutes ago, The Red Tree is finished. THE END.

Well done! I'm pleased for you.

Sorry to barge in - I've followed your journal on and off for a while.

Well done! I'm pleased for you.

Thank you. You're not barging. Actually, I was considering, just this morning, writing you about Mary Anning (don't let that freak you out).

Feel your emotions. It's probably a good sign that you're feeling them. (I'm flashing now on William Goldman, how he said he cried when he wrote the line "Westley lay dead by the machine.")

I'll add: I'm proud of you. And I'm looking forward to reading the book.

Peace.

Clarifying Edit: Your mood, obviously, is a good sign that this work was important to you. Goldman reacting that way to what happened in The Princess Bride showed how important that story was to him. And that importance made you work as hard as you could, same as Goldman did and same as a striving parent does. You've said the creating of your stories is like being a parent. Neither job's easy. But thank you for doing your creating.

I hope you're taking a well-earned break. And, because I can share more than my pretension, here's video of Natalie Portman playing with puppies (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/f88f8d6385).

The end seemed to come quickly, in the end. You raced towards it without looking back. Congrats!

Congratulations if such is desired, commiseration as is needed.

(I just sent off the email to get a copyeditor assigned for my dissertation, another one of those strangely significant steps that hit me as I hit "send"...)

Congratulations! Not to go and bring up work when you probably want to take a breather after just finishing this, but, will you be going back to Joey Lafaye for the next novel, or do you think you'll start something new from scratch?
