I do wish it were not necessary to make this announcement. But. Regrettably, I shall not be attending Dragon*Con this weekend. I was unable to come to a satisfactory agreement with the convention programming staff regarding my scheduling and advised them today that I would not be coming. No ill will on my part, just a lot of confusion. Maybe next year. Maybe not. I apologise to anyone reading this who will in anyway be inconvenienced by my decision. I especially apologise to Jada, Sissy, Kat, Jean-Paul, Rogue and Jessica, Ted and Kelly, and Voltaire, as I was very much looking forward to spending time with all of you.

Ah, well. There's too much frelling work to do, anyway.

Hasn't anyone out there received his, her, or its copy of Alabaster yet?

Not yet, sadly.

Are you still planning to go to WFC in Austin this year?

It is definitely a bummer that you will be unable to be at Dragon*Con. I noticed a trend though that they don't seem to set very many signing times for many of their author guests and some have no signing slots at all. The upside is that at least I'll have less books to pack now. Thanks for the heads up :)

I'm in Australia so i fear i shall be waiting for a while for my copy!

However i did recieve Sirenia and "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ghoul" is now one of my favourites from all the Sirenia stories.

Thankyou for writing them and offering a service that lets this poor Aussie get a constant stream of beautiful writing.

Amazon said I would receive my copy around the first week of September - but I live in France. My boyfriend and I look very much forward to it.

No, but there's another chance today...

Sorry about Dragon*Con. Are the Forces What Be trying to keep you from your fans' physical presence? (Maybe you and Spooky should spend the weekend visiting cats instead...)

Not as yet. Again, I hope for today to be the blessed day. Regardless, I have Sirenia to comfort me in my woe.

Regrettably, I shall not be attending Dragon*Con this weekend.

I couldn't have thought it would have been possible for you to have actually done so with all the BS that's happened this month. From what I recall, it usually takes you several weeks (or months) of dedicated prep time. Lamentable though, the inevitable photos does make it look like plenty of fun.

My mailbox is still empty.

I did get Sirenia, though. Locke's picture is pretty; I haven't had time to read yet.

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't ordered Alabaster yet, but as soon as I finish paying for my textbooks, it's at the top of the list. (Pricing textbooks is such a joy: the last time I heard that many iterations of "Squeal like a pig, boy! SQUEEE!", I was at a Lewisville (TX) high school football pep rally.)

I haven't ordered it yet either and am terribly ashamed as well. I shall pay for my sins though, now that the limited has run out.

Thought of you

You might have read about this in the JVP or some other like publication, but in case you didn't:

Hope your week is doing better.

Just got mine yesterday. I haven't been able to touch it much yet. Mostly I've just held it in my hand thinking "oooh... pretty...."

Aww, I'm sorry you can't make it! Sounds like you were looking forward to going. And I had "meet Caitlin" on my to do list. I just finished Silk last month and am now reading Murder of Angels. Maybe next year will work out.

Alabaster hasn't arrived yet, but I did receive Sirenia Digest. I really like "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ghoul," one of your more Lovecraftian recent stories. I love the description of the house (I'm a sucker for using all the senses to describe a setting) and the protagonist's "realistic" view of her purpose. Then at the end it snaps back to that neat theme of stillness being her gift...and the sun rises on them both.

Sonya's story is wonderfully imaginative in its concept of alien storytelling, and as always, her language is stunning. I had already read your other story, but it was good to have it at hand to read again.

I received my copy from SubPress today, beautifully and meticulously cradled in layers of bubblewrap and a separate plastic wrap around the book and chapbook. As others have said here, "ooooo pretty!" Just in time for a long gray rainy New England weekend to spend savouring it.
