R.E.M. are one of the only bands in my music collection to merit eleven straight albums, even though I'm sad to admit I've only listened to Up a couple of times. I think the first thing I ever heard from them was "Can't Get There From Here"; I definitely remember having Fables of the Reconstruction (of the Fables) on vinyl, and listening to it while I wrote at night, during high school.
A song of theirs which never fails to make me smile is "The Voice of Harold", which consists (I believe) of Michael Stipe singing the back cover copy of a Harold Montgomery and the Revelleers album to the tune of "Seven Chinese Brothers". I bought Dead Letter Office just for that.;)
