One year for my birthday (while I was in the single digits) I got a dinosaur playset. It was so cool! It came with fairly realistic dinosaurs (not as nice as the ones in your extinction event photo though), a big rock face playset and "cavemen" in animals skins with big clubs (Neanderthals, I guess).
Bear in mind this was the 70's and toymakers were less concerned about the overlap between toys and education.
