It sets something up in the LJ backend, I think. It sets up a redirect so (for example) http;//greygirlbeast.livejournal.com/699550.html is automatically redirected to http://newusername.livejournal.com/699550.html. Basically, it's adding a step to whole process of grabbing the URL.
