The only PR that I've seen that I would call good is Robin McKinley's Sunshine. The rest are (at absolute best) trashy fluff.
It is also perhaps worth noting that I and my loved ones are a group of non-closeted queers, transsexuals, and similar fringe-folk, and we all read PR novels. A fair number (like the mormon-written ones) are fairly scary, but there are some that may be utter trash, but at least manage to be mostly non-offensive.
