Does anyone call up John le Carré and tell him George Smiley and Alec Leamas are invalid characters because he wrote them out of his experiences of working for MI5 and MI6?
LeCarre's characters from his "Circus" novels are some of the most thoughtful and well-developed I think I've ever encountered. Have you read Our Game? Highly recommended.
