Interesting and scary article. It mentions that Bible and Koran thumping denominations are increasing. I understand why the Roman Catholic Church is losing people. I am one of those who recently left it, to join the Episcopalian church, whose recent schism pretty much got rid of the more intransigent, bigoted leaders. I hope it does not bow to further pressure.

Yes there are, and I was so shocked when I ran into one that I literally went back into the closet and hid for six more months before other pagans coaxed me out again.

Seriously, I should have known, human nature being what it is. But I was so shocked...that was when I was 20 and I honestly believed that pagan = a better person.

My first thought when I read about this was, is anyone surprised? That's been the Church's policy for ages. And this Pope is as conservative as they come, so I did not expect to see a change.

This is why I agree with Chris' idea that Catholics should march on the Vatican screaming "YOU SUCK!" While the hierarchy of evil old men has long been mired in a sea of hate, this shit does NOT represent the feelings of lay Catholics or many priests I have known. We stick around because we hope that, in some small way, we can take the Church back from them.
