I saw Quarantine on Friday and greatly enjoyed it. I have one nitpick with it, but it's near the end and not big enough for me to dislike the film entirely. More troubling were the audience members who apparently thought it was a comedy and laughed their way through certain scenes. Yes, there's the "nervous laughter" excuse, but it didn't keep me from wanting to punch all of them. (I also have trouble accepting guffaws as nervous laughter.) Jennifer Carpenter plays hysterically terrified so very well that I found myself wondering how long it took her to calm down at the end of each shooting day.
One review I read said the film looked like it was shot in a Jaycee's haunted house. I can only guess that's because we weren't given brightly lit close ups of the infected. As with most horror films, I think that would have made Quarantine a much less frightening experience. So, to that reviewer, I give a great big bloody finger.
As I left the theater Friday night I thought to myself "I bet Caitlin would really like this film." I'm glad you did.
