Footnotes

You know, before reading Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, I was fairly indifferent to footnotes in fiction. Her footnotes (often continuing for pages) are marvelous and personally, I thought they enriched the standing text.

But your book is your book, and we all trust you'll decide what works best for your story.

I wonder, though, are the footnotes usually added after the entire story is written, or added after a particular chapter... Hmm.
