Heck, despite your whole jaded and grouchy persona, despite the 'species of one' thing, people care about you. People you've never met. And not because of a celebrity thing, but because something you wrote made a difference. Because of what you've done and who you are. Maybe only at times like this does that become so apparent that you can't wave it off the way we tend to wave off compliments and such.
It can be overwhelming to meditate on the idea that we matter when we're not used to thinking that way. You should get used to it. And enjoy it.
