This song is a staple of my childhood and nobody I know has ever heard of it before. I agree - the sound of the song is probably what gives the lyrics more meaning (see also: "That's the Way" by Led Zepplin).
I think the line The knot of tears around your throat is crystallizing into your design is probably one of my favorites. The imagry of the whole song, however, is just amazing.
