I've had this happen as well. I've gone to the beaches along the Potomac after tropical storms,(places that were fairly rich with shark,and skate's teeth and various fossils), expecting to find a treasure of unearthed delights-only to find the beaches quite bare, and "stripped raw" as you so succinctly described.

But I am so glad you've gotten a chance to do some birdwatching, migrates must be starting to make their way through your area soon.
