Here's the sad truth. You're average employee at a chain bookstore won't know much at all about what's on the shelves. Especially if you're talking about a fairly obscure author, which I must admit I am. I'm getting a lot of reports of the book having already sold out at B&N and Borders, here and there, and being reordered (which is good). But not all employees would know this sort of thing.
