..I don't *THINK* that I do this? but if you catch me at it, do please tell me...
Of course your example includes ANOTHER one of my pet hates.. "XXX wondered if...."... people emoting things that you can't SEE.
But, we persist. I am praying to the gods of time and serendipidy that we catch up soon :)
