At best, that's the tip of the tip of the iceberg. Wanna get really pissed, read....

And here, Chelsea Elliot speaks out. She is makes a point that we're talking about the actions of a few bad cops, and that this is one of the "bad apples."

Myself, I think I'm going to start a "Friends of Tony Baloney" Facebook page.

I'm on dial-up and it's a good day when I can get all of livejournal to load, so no watching the you tube, but yeah, apparently even some (most?) of the other cops thought the pepper spraying was out of line. I've also read that a lot of cops have expressed sympathy.

& this is one of those things, where, if I'm giving people who are in any potentially adversarial position with them advice, the second thing I'd always say is "remember, cops are not your friends, they are NEVER your friends" (the first is, always be polite and respectful, cause, really, that can be the single biggest difference between jail and no-jail in a whole host of circumstances), this is a time where I think we should remember that a LOT of what cops do IS good, and a LOT of them did sign up for the job because they want to help people, and their heart is in the right place.

Plus, they are union.

What really bugs me is the grand indifference, except when there's hostility and contempt, on the part of the media. Worse is that I fear if the TV news were leading with this every night, far too many people still would just shrug, and wonder what the silly protesters were doing to get themselves in trouble, and why they didn't just go out and get one of those many good jobs hanging off trees and/or street signs on every corner, instead of gumming up the works. Gah.

Also, as I said in an lj entry I haven't been able to post yet for some reason, it's truly fascinating to compare statements of diagnosed sociopaths with recent remarks by stock and bond traders.

It strikes me I may have been unclear in my comments on police above. Basically, what I meant to say is that could be good allies in this fight, even if you are not normally a fan, and even granted that some of them are horrible, and the non-horrible ones will usually ahve the awful ones' back.

The Daily Show had a great clip on this last night, starring Chris Meloni:
