At the moment, I'm just a tiny bit more disgusted with humanity than usual. Well, generalizations are never fair, but there you go. And a new word is needed, what with humanity's default setting seeming to be rather inhumane.

More "good" people than "bad" people?

Really?

You think?

Oh, yeah. Right. Easter fucking Sunday.

Were you in church this morning, Vernon Hackett?

---

Yesterday, I wrote 1,181 words, and finished "Fake Plastic Trees," and today I'll send it to the book's editor.

It's warm today. I should be Outside.

I still haven't been able to see that video, since my new computer apparently hates all versions of it. Probably my new computer is smarter than I am.

I purposely haven't watched it. It shouldn't even exist.

Yeah, I don't really want to see it, but I'd probably feel obligated to try if I could. (Not that you should; that's just my free-floating guilt.)

And to point out the obvious but extra-sucky: even if he was in church this morning, plenty of his fellow "Christians" would have no problem with what he did.

Maybe the video will be used against the attackers, and, I hope, the recorded bystanders. This is not to justify this abomination, but perhaps some good can be wrung out of it. People can either be bad, good, or indifferent, and bad and indifferent are really, really easy.

Nothing good comes out of this. Yes, the video is evidence. This is what we call irony, and, usually, irony is rather vile.

It certainly is vile.

Nor had I, until this morning.

I am not surprised that it is my homestate.
There was a reason I used to carry a knife and pepperspray with me when I was going to work.
I hadn't heard the updates on the incident though.

Transwomen, and women in general, need to know how to fight. Especially when we have to worry about other fucking women being the psychopaths.

I feel like I should comment.
I haven't been able to get myself to watch the video. Somehow, that makes me feel guilty, but I just can't stand to watch it.

I didn't want to have to feel afraid going places just because I am trans. But it seems I'm left with little choice.

There is no need to watch it.

What one has to be, always, forever, with few exceptions, is cautious. The caution becomes, in time, second nature, and also instinctual. There are places were cannot go, and things it is not safe to do, because the world is filled with hate. That's currently part of being trans. To think otherwise is a fantasy that will get you hurt.

There are fifty times as many good people as bad people. Unfortunately, it's been well established that there are many social situations where good people will stand by and do nothing but watch the bad people, or worse, collaborate. (The film In the Company of Men is an amazing and brutal demonstration of this principle -- one bad person, one good but weak collaborator.)

And the degree to which good people will fail to intervene or otherwise respond depends on a lot of factors. People can be especially hesitant to interfere when there's a possibility that violent attackers will turn on them.

The restaurant appears to have been mostly empty and I wonder whether anyone knew the victim was transgendered (I can't make out what's being said).

To me, the truly disturbing aspect of the video is the socialization of violence between women as harmless entertainment. That appears to be the attitude of the employees; ooh, look at that catfight. Would they have been standing by laughing if two men were beating up another man?

By the way, it's also true that the actions of bad people have at least fifty times the impact of the actions of good people, which is why the world is at best half shit.

It appears his Facebook account is inactive or something.

A real class act.
